Pegida is coming to my town on Monday (I’ll explain after the jump).

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is a far right organisation.. they claim that all muslims are evil and that no muslims should be allowed in Europe.. They’ll do a march in my hometown on Monday.. They think they’ll have 10 - 20 people attending, and they’ve said they do not expect a counter demonstration..

I can’t wait to see their faces when they see the hundreds of people we’ve gathered to show them that we do not tolerate hate in our town, in one day we’ve gathered more than 200 people (I live in a town with a population of perhaps 20k).

Freedom of speech.. sure, that’s OK, but if you plan of a rally with the intention of talking shit about muslims/christians/gays/whatever.. well.. you better prepare for the response..

The Europeans seem to be getting real short with immigrants as of recently. Even before the more notable attacks in France and what not those small intolerant pockets seemed to be gaining some traction.

I wasnt joking. At least among a vocal minority and those who fall along a more conservative belief, anti-immigration (mostly for Muslims and Northern African immigrants) opinion seemed to be on the rise. With that generally comes an increase in racist opinions.

I’m an American living in Belgium, and have to go through all the immigration processes. They’ve really cracked down and made things more difficult. The wife and I have been through a ton of crap with paperwork certifying our marriage and kids, etc. At least they apply the draconian laws equitably.

They get their “facts” from some blogs and think that all media are lying to them. It’s just impossible to get through to them. A good turnout with ten times the people they can get to show up might at least show them that they are isolated. For now....

Well.. they translate it to “Patriotiske Européere mot islamisering av aftenlandet” pretty much a straight forward translation from the German version... So here it should be PEMIAA. The thing though, aftenlandet (Abenlandes) is NOT a Norwegian word.. we use native land or homeland..

It does help that I can actually read German and Dutch though.. I can’t see a way that the stupid fuckers that support that group remotely understand what it says.

I just got done writing a short (terrible unfortunately) paper about this issue in Germany. What is seems like is that the status quo is working alright, but the key is how local governments handle the issue. One of the best sounding situations I was reading up on was what Stuttgart was doing, they operate classes to help new immigrants integrate better and give them internships in the city government giving them job experience and they in turn work with other new immigrants. This works far better than making the safety net too big.

Europe needs immigrants, you guys are not replacing your native populations quick enough for economic demand. Many native populations are decreasing right now.
